Springbrook Creek Fish Passage Restoration
Project Overview
As part of the Springbrook Creek Watershed Assessment (SCWA) a conceptual design was developed, which calls for the removal of the culvert and weirs and installation of a bridge and streamside vegetation. The design was created by Wild Fish Conservancy (WFC) in partnership with the Bainbridge Island Land Trust and the City of Bainbridge Island. Preliminary designs are expected during this phase of the project.
The Springbrook Creek Watershed Assessment identified the removal of the Fletcher Bay Road Culvert and Weirs as the highest restoration priority within the Springbrook Creek Watershed due to its position low in the watershed. It is the first passage barrier that fish encounter in the stream, which hosts 3.9 miles of fish spawning and rearing habitat above the barrier.
The Springbrook Creek Fish Passage Restoration (AKA Fletcher Bay Road Culvert and Weir Removal) Project contributes to a holistic watershed strategy, within a regional and watershed context, and will contribute toward improving conditions in Springbrook Creek, Puget Sound and the Salish Sea for anadromous fish, like Coho Salmon.
Funding for design has been awarded through the Salmon Recovery Funding Board, administered by the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office (agreement number 21-1058).
