Why Compost?
- Composting can reduce what you send to the landfill by approximately 25%.
- According to the EPA, wasted food is responsible for 58% of landfill methane emissions.
- Composting food scraps can return valuable nutrients and carbon to the soil, support plant growth, and build resiliency right here on Bainbridge Island.
What Can I Compost?
Throw food in, keep plastic out. The best way to compost right is to put food and food-soiled paper in the compost bin and keep plastic out. Plastic bags, containers, and plastic packaging should never be put in the compost because they contaminate compost with micro-plastics that people use on their lawns and gardens.
